Feb. – Mar. 2003 The Racky Thomas Band is back with another top-tier blues record. It’s rare to hear a rhythm section as good as drummer Jon Ross and bassist Todd Carson – this is the way it should be done, kids – and the vibe can’t be beat. Live at the Yardrock (self-release), recorded at one of the band’s Boston-area haunts, is blues fun. With smoking flat-tire shuffles like “The Hustle Is On” and “Oh My” mixing with cool ballads and tasty straight-ahead fare, this one gets the Best of the Bunch award. Jeff Calvin – Blues Revue

2001 The
Racky Thomas Band ● Troubled
All The Time
With a stellar cast of New England musicians, Troubled All The
Time (self-release) from The Racky Thomas Band spotlights
singer/harpist Thomas in a set of self-penned tunes.
Influences are easy to spot, sometimes too much so - “Oh My”
is an obvious rewrite of Guitar Slim’s “Certainly All” – but
it’s hard to argue when the results are this good. The jazzed up slow blues “All By Myself” benefits from a
fine Slim-influenced solo from Troy Gonyea, while the bouncy “One
Thing Mama” features Thomas’ hot harp.
“Your Love To Me” is a sweet Sam Cooke-style ballad, sung
soulfully by Thomas. Well
written, well played, and nicely recorded.
